Getting Started
Complete Mentor Application & Profile: After you complete your Mentor Application & Profile (~15 min.), we will review your application and get back to you typically in one week.
Watch Training Video & Complete Background Check: If accepted, watch a 60-minute onboarding video and complete a 10-min background check.
Connect with a Mentee: Your Mentor Profile will be added to a list of Mentor Profiles, which are auto-recommended to Mentees based on factors like job type or interests. (Mentors are not matched by our team.) If a Mentee requests you, you will then schedule a meeting with them on the mentoring platform.
What is my role as a Mentor? Mentors provide career support and guidance to our first-generation college students and talented emerging professionals in short-term connections based on your availability and schedule. Topics range depending on your mentee's needs (resume/cover letter, interview prep, career advice, info about your industry or your career journey, etc.). Mentors serve as "career champions" to help Mentees explore career pathways, become strong job applicants, and expand their professional networks.
Who are the Mentees? Most Mentees are 10,000 Degrees college students attending community colleges or 4-year institutions. Some are 10,000 Degrees alumni or staff.
How long will my commitment be? It depends on your Mentee’s needs and your availability. Your Mentee(s) might prefer one-off "flash mentoring" sessions or monthly meetings. You can indicate your availability and book mentoring sessions around your schedule, though we ask Mentors to be “active” for at least 6 months. You can also choose to mentor one or multiple Mentees.
